Short, independant flick reviews! Read about it, before you watch it!

Married Life - read more now!

In a nutshell: A married man’s desire for true love changes his life – not a chick flick at all and definitely worth watching :-)

The story: Harry, a moderately successful man in his fifties is married to Pam, a loving wife who defines relationship as sex and sex only. Surely a perfect woman for some men but Harry, who’s seeking for “true love”. Eventually, he finds what he was looking for with the young, featherbrained Kay (Rachel McAdams) or at least he believes so. As he decides to change life and live with his dream girl, sharing his intention with his dear friend Richard (Pierce Brosnan) is just the beginning of a lot of trouble…

Flickcritique says: A bit slow in the beginning, “Married Life” unveils the abysses of the upper class society in a amusing, funny way. I enjoyed watching Chris Cooper in his role as Harry. Truly excellent however was Patricia Clarkson aka Pam. Pierce Brosman was bit of a disappointment even though it’s rally hard for him to be any worse then in Mamma Mia :-( Married Life is one of the movies that are hard to categorize, it’s a bit of a comedy, a little bit of a drama but most important it’s worth you time to watch it :-D

Tip of the day (if you are a guy): Go to see this movie with your girlfriend, so next weekend you can ask her to watch together something she would otherwise say ‘no, no, no’ to, like Funny Games U.S. for example ;-)

Watch it if you liked: Lost in Translation (2003), Closer (2004), Kinsey (2004)

Mamma Mia! - a dull musical

In a nutshell: All ABBA songs packed in a musical with a poor plot – unless you are a huge ABBA fan, pass on Mamma Mia! :-(

The Story: Well, not much of it in fact :-( Sophie (Amanda Seyfried) runs with her mum a small, romantic hotel in Greece. Due to mom’s slutty youth times, she’s got to invite 3 possible fathers of her to her wedding, so one of the fellas could walk her to the altar.

Flickcritique says: My girlfriend more or less made me watch this chick flick. Not being a friend of either the genre or the topic, I am obviously not the main target group. While she loved it, I almost fell asleep :-( Don’t get me wrong, I do like ABBA but there is just way too much singing and dancing in Mamma Mia!. Complete lack of a real plot is something I expected. I was surprised seeing Meryl Streep obviously enjoying her resolute mother part big, big times. And she did a good job :-) Seeing Pierce Brosman aka Remington Steele aka James Bond singing and dancing in a skin thigh, bling-bling suit gave me the feeling he has been forced to play his part. Some sort of community service alternative for too many speeding tickets, I guess. Please Pierce, please don’t speed again, will you? :-(

Conclusion: If you are a gal, go for Mamma Mia!! If you are not, don’t! ;-)

Tip of the day: If you are a lad, go for it with your lady, she will owe you big times and you can probably ask her to join you watching The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man, The Dark Knight and the next five Marvel movies to come ;-)

Watch it if you liked: Moulin Rouge! (2001), Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007), any crappy musical ;-)
