Blindness - a movie worth watching
Short movie review: A virus blinding people instantly strikes Earth, pushing humanity to the edge of it’s existence - an interesting but violent disaster movie!
The plot in a few words: Starting off with an Asian man the disease affects more and more people. There is no explanation or treatment, everyone who gets it goes blind in short period of time. Eventually, government takes drastic measures detaining the sick ones without any help and barely any support. As the situation gets worse, the authorities lose more and more control over the plaque anarchy and violence start to reign inside the detention camp as much as out side of it. However, what no one knows it that Julianne Mores vision is perfectly fine and that she just followed her blinded husband. Among all the people struk by this blindness, she turns to be the one who has the biggest burden to carry..
Flickcritique says: It’s an interesting idea for a disaster movie, however the plot seems a bit long-winded. It’s probably because the movie has some depth and there is more about the story then just the blindness. It’s also a drama about an estranged couple fighting for their relationship. Except for the violence I liked the movie, probably even more because of it’s ending. A bit aging but still very attractive Julianne Moore does a fine acting job once again. I was also delighted to see Alice Braga (remember her being Ana in I am Legend?) staging the promiscuous woman with dark glasses. It’s not a high budget, global disaster flick with horrifying effects. It’s rather the simplicity of the pictures that transforms the gravity of the situation. It’s a movie worth watching.
Watch it if you liked: Think of the movie as a mix of 28 Days Later… (2002) and The Happening (2008), except there are no flesh eating zombies and no killing plants, either. In Blindness the true evil are the people.
A very good friend of mine told me my reviews were short but not short enough, let’s say for information purists
He asked my why I would not draw the plot in 3 simple images. So this is the first attempt

‘I am Legend’ - short review
In a nutshell: The post apocalyptic struggle of the single survivor living in the ruins of New York city - a good movie
It’s the year 2012. The U.S. Army virologist Lieutenant Colonel Robert Neville lives a lonely but busy life in what is left of NYC. During the day he searches for food and useful stuff together with his German shepherd Samantha. In the night though, he barricades in his house, hiding from blood thirsty zombies, victims of a man-made virus that was supposed to be a cure for cancer 3 years back. Being the only immune human being and resistant to the airborne virus, Neville is driven by the search for a cure, one that he believes his very own blood is the key to. Despite his rational approach to the situation, Neville does not give up on hope for meeting another human being again, broadcasting a radio message on a daily basis. As over the time loneliness becomes more and more of an issue for Robert, he is becoming less careful in a fatal environment…
Flickcritique says: Director Francis Lawrence did not really stick to Richard Matheson’s original “I am Legend” novel. Still, he made a cool movie. The beginning is brilliant, with Will Smith walking around in half devastated and totally abandoned NYC. The pictures are very strong. It’s hard to call out the critic points without spoiling the movie for you, for that reason I just want to point out that a darker or rather logical ending would probably have been much more appreciated by the audience. Nonetheless, the movie is worth watching, particularly due to Smith’s single actor performance
Best in movie scene: Following his dog Samantha Robert finds himself in a completely dark building, the only source of light is a mini maglite mounted to his rifle. You don’t get to see much in these minutes, all you hear is the raising breathing rate, indicating the approaching danger… breathtaking
Conclusion: A good movie that could have been great, if it was a little less heroic/predictable
Still worth watching ![]()
