Short, independant flick reviews! Read about it, before you watch it!

‘Never Back Down’ - crap movie

In a nutshell: Angry over daddy’s tragic death teenager boy solves all his problems and gets the (American) dream girl by beating up another jerk – what a pile of crap :-(

The story: Jake Taylor finds his way to deal with his personal issues by training martial arts sports, keeping in mind his ultimate goal: taking revenge on another high school boy who humiliated him in front of a crowd. Big surprise, he manages to become really good, kicks the shit out of the bad ass, gets his ex-girlfriend and eventually the respect he is seeking for.

washed-out Never Back Down movie ticket from Cineworld Cinemas in Dublin, IrelandFlickcritique says: In my personal opinion if you are pubertal, twelve years old or younger or borderline retarded, maybe because mummy was heavily on crack, when she was pregnant with you and/or cause she dropped you a couple of times when you were a small baby, then you might consider watching this movie. Otherwise just forget about it. It is a mystery to me how a good actor like Djimon Honsu (remember him being brilliant in “Blood Diamond”?) could waste his time and talent on this, playing the part of the martial arts teacher Jean Roqua. My guess is this is the outcome of a lost bet or something like this. Oh, almost forgot to mention, the rest of the actors seem to be people randomly picked from the street, maybe hobby actors at their best.

Conclusion: Karate Kid meets Bloodsport :-(

Watch it if you liked: The Karate Kid (1984), The Karate Kid (1984), Bloodsport (1988)… dammit, you still reading! I guess you are really young and either of these titles rings a bell… ok, watch it if you liked The Fast and the Furious (2001) and/or xXx (2002) but keep in mind it’s not ‘that’ great ;-)

Ridiculous. I happen to think you went about reviewing this movie all wrong.

Firstly, yes, “daddy’s traffic death,” was of course, the norm. BUT, as a reviewer, you just completely sucked at telling your audience the story. People read these, don’t mislead them.

Yes, he fought to deal with the pain, the anger, the stress. BUT, as he tells us later on, he had every intention of fighting outside. HE WANTED to get even with the jerk. He didn’t want to do it because he got beat up in front of half the school, the jerk made fun of his dad, slandered his name. You wouldn’t do the same?

I LOVED the movie, and everyone has their own views, but the movie was NOT that bad. Small town Iowa kid moves, finds out theres more to fighting than your plain old Muhammed Ali style.

If you’re going to review, tell it how it is.

And the teacher was phenomenal. It wasn’t a waste of time. Granted, it told the same old story as they all do. Never Back Down.

I think people should watch this movie. It was great.

    Hey Breezee!

I guess it all comes down to expectations and standards. While I respectfully disagree on the movie issue, I am more then happy having passionate readers as you are :-)

    Cheers,
